Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the role or purpose of the WGO?

A: The WGO was formed for the advancement and promotion of woodturning.  We are a
teaching and learning organization, that actively encourages new members to join the
    hobby, and learn the craft.

Q: Do I need to be an experienced woodturner to join?

A: Absolutely not!  Our membership ranges from very new beginners to seasoned veterans.
    Everyone is warmly welcomed.

Q: How much are the annual dues?

A: Annual dues for individuals are $50 payable at the beginning of the Guild's year
(September). Download a membership application form (.doc)   or   (.pdf)

Q: What normally happens at a Guild meeting?

A: Monthly meetings (September to June) normally begin with a brief update from our
President on any current news or issues of interest.  Then the Guest "Presenter" for the
evening is introduced.  This will often be a highly regarded individual from outside the Guild,
who will speak on and demonstrate their specialty.  Mid-meeting there is a 15-minute
coffee break and socializing period.  The presenter will then complete their session.
The evening concludes with a "Show & Tell", where Guild members may present their
recent work, and briefly discuss their experiences.
The meeting adjourns not later than 10 pm.

Q: What other types of meetings does the WGO organize?

A: A second monthly meeting called "Skills Night" (September to June, except December)
is an entire evening devoted to teaching. Evenings are divided between classroom style
    and full hands on evenings.

Q: Are 'world class' turners included in the WGO demonstrators program?

A: Yes, the WGO organizes both evening and full day demonstrations by touring world class
turners at least three times each year.

Q: How can I get more information?

A: Come out to one of our meetings and introduce yourself or send a message to our
membership director, see link on the 'CONTACT US' button on the left.
