Ron Katz
Ron got into wood turning in 2009 after spending a lot of time building a friend an elaborate audio system cabinet/credenza out of Californian Beech and Purple Heart wood. (see below)
When it was assembled and installed, his friend casually threw an ugly old rattan basket on the counter top. When Ron asked what it was for he laughed and said it was for his keys and small change.
Ron made a comment that it really killed the look of his new fancy cabinet/credenza . The client then casually said they why don’t you turn me bowl out the same wood you used!
Having never turned wood before, Ron did some research and discovered the WGO website. He then contacted Robin who suggested I come to a meeting... well, that was it, Ron was addicted.
Ron has been a pioneer in utilizing techniques that blend together various woods producing unique pieces that stand out from the rest. As you can see from these beautiful photos, Ron is not only a woodworker, a woodturner he is a fabulous photographer.
Needless to say in 12 years Ron has come a long way! The beautiful bowls and pieces of art that now rest on many a cabinet or credenza, speak volumes of his dedication to wood art.
Well done Ron!
